“I commend him (Ortiz) for accepting the fight,” Mayweather said. “But on September 17, Ortiz is just going to be another casualty, the 42nd one who tried and failed.”
Mayweather is undefeated through 41 fights. According to ESPN.com, Mayweather also subtly criticized pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao and British boxing sensation Amir Khan by claiming that Ortiz is the best fighter for him to take.
“I am ready to return to the ring and give my fans a fantastic night of boxing by fighting the best out there,” Mayweather said. He added that Ortiz, who is currently the WBC welterweight champion, is an “extremely talented fighter” with “amazing skills and heart.”
Ortiz took the title by a unanimous decision over previously unbeaten Andre Berto (27-1, 21 KOs), who went down in the first and sixth rounds of a fight-of-the-year candidate. Ortiz was knocked down in the second and sixth rounds. Who do you think will win this fight? Will let's all find out and watch Mayweather vs Ortiz on September 17 on HBO PPV.
